Janel - I wholeheartedly agree that online retailers and service folks should seriously consider launching affiliate programs as a channel.
I disagree with your conclusion regarding keeping affiliates out of paid search - this isn’t good “one size fits all” advice.
There are many cases, especially among the small and medium merchants where the affiliates have both more capital to play with in Paid Search and better skills and tools to play with.
I see your point in the case of larger companies who have someone aggressively engaged in Paid Search internally.
