Sheer brilliance, indeed but are you saying it’s not real demand when you say ‘spinning?’
As I see it, anything Yahoo can do (allow advertisers to have precision control with regard to ad placement) Google can do better. This is Google answering demand.
As a side note, is Ad Rank all that sexy to anyone? At some point you have to ask yourself, why must the leading search company cloak its ad placement methodology? Why should there even be one beyond simple bidding (a la Yahoo)? Aaaahh… because Google isn’t about showing ads—it’s about showing the ad the user *really* wants to see based on some fancy pants algo.
