Jeff,

Google didn’t miss any train. They will use dark fiber, scalable servers, and engineering firepower to give everyone tracks to race their train.

As for Orkut being a failure? Not in India. But again Google does not create content, never have, they let you find it. This will be a mass of taffy...massive reconstituted content now inventory...and performance structured deals will be a no-nonsense way to jump into the backbone.

To build another social network would be like making a new artery...Facebook might even be the “heart” but Google- they are the lining, the conduit of every vessel.

Shape and type agnostic.

Hi Jeff and thanks for the coverage. I had to laugh, I don’t really see myself as an insider. I’m probably more of a “what if?” imagineer, if you’ll pardon the totally made-up word.

In recent news, Google look set to roll out their own brand of social media portal, which isn’t a huge surprise, since it’s the only way they can actively protect their core competences from being eroded over time.

It’s not like Google are just going to vanish into thin air over night, but they’re probably very much aware of the potential threat social media and social networking pose to them.

Also, as of this morning, the article of mine you reference is no longer to be found on Google.

How ironic that my article criticizing Google’s attitude towards social media should get me edited out of their index.

Try looking for: “Social Media to kill Google’s search algorithm?” and see what you get. You’ll find plenty of references to my article, but not the article itself. Looks like Aaron Wall at SEO Book is spot on.

The problem for Google is they’re sending out totally mixed messages about the value of social media, or how they value social media.

On the one hand, Google Universal is supposed to reward websites and ‘blogs that have lots of social traffic, like comments. But then they penalize ‘blogs that do well in social networks and via social media venues like Digg, StumbleUpon et cetera.

So the question is: assuming Google do release their own social media portal, will they be as quick to ‘vanish’ articles that go global from their own service?

(BTW, I did try posting this comment on your SeekingAlpha article, but the registration email never arrived.)

Wayne (S):
Thanks for your comments.  BTW, your site IS showing up at Google.com here in U.S.—4th from top result here in Chicago.

Not that this phenomenon doesn’t happen—it certainly does.

When isn’t Aaron spot-on?  :)

Keep up the good work at BlahBlahTech.  I’ll be reading… and it’s great to know you.

Hi Jeff, I’ve just checked with a colleague in New York and the article is filtering back through.

Not sure what that was all about, but it didn’t look good from where I was sitting!

Good to know you like the ‘blog. Much appreciated.
